As we kick off another year, the OZ EDM team has compiled a list of 10 artists you need to watch in 2017.
With thousands of artists pushing the envelope of music creativity, we have chosen 10 artists that have caught our attention in 2016. We encourage all fans of electronic music to attend their shows and continue to support the next generation of artists in 2017.
While there may be some familiar faces; here’s our top 10 to keep an eye on this year!
Leaving a mark on charts, dance floors and music enthusiasts the world over, Dutch born, Australian raised MaRLo has established himself as the #1 Trance DJ in Australia. From Beatport #1’s to headlining some of the most sought after dance events in the world, MaRLo takes influences from Trance, Tech-Trance, Hard Trance and Big Room to form his own sound, so unique it has been dubbed ‘The MaRLo Sound’ by his loyal, and vocal fan base worldwide!
With a blistering 2016 behind him, MaRLo is now world renowned and 2017 is shaping up to be his biggest endeavor yet. Expect big things from Australia’s most iconic Trance DJ.
Derek Vincent Smith, known by his stage name Pretty Lights is no stranger when it comes to electronic music. The American DJ/Producer is renowned for his mind blowing live shows and cross fusion of genres. From glitch and hip hop, to vintage funk and soul; there isn’t much the Grammy nominated producer doesn’t compose and with the news that a fresh album will drop in 2017 fans are eagerly anticpating what the mastermind has in store next.
The upcoming Pretty Lights project (a film / album hybrid) has been four years in the making and after is latest effort A Colour Map of the Sun, we’re anticipating another Grammy nomination.
If there’s one artist that’s broken through the barriers to gain worldwide recognition in 2016; its REZZ. The young producer’s accomplishments were astounding a year ago, but Rezazadeh clearly isn’t showing any sign of decreasing her “14 hours a day” rule since. In 2016 she’s released two EPs on mau5trap, put forth acclaimed singles and remixes, and earned main stage slots at a number of prominent dance music festivals.
Recently in the country as part of the HARD Australia touring festival, Isabelle Rezazadeh is certainly turning heads with each performance and musical release. Stay tuned to see what the rising star brings to the table this year – it’s tipped to be an exciting year ahead.
It seems as though Anjunadeep has deep house pretty much nailed, then they go and pull something even more spectacular out of the bag.
Two years ago we saw the label sign rising young Finnish producer Yotto, who quickly made an impression with his debut EP Memento/Azzuro. This being Anjuna, you could be assured that Yotto wasn’t a one-trick pony, and so it came to pass as he dropped a number of big hits.
An inspiring talent with a flare for combining solid production with catchy songwriting, Yotto certainly has everything it takes to become a major player on the scene, and after gracing the stage at a number of events last year – including ABGT200; he’s definitely one to watch.
Slushii is the performance alias of American EDM artist Julian Scanlan, who first made waves with a series of viral remixes in early 2016.
What began as posting remixes on Soundcloud as an 18-year-old, quickly garnered seven-figure plays and support from some of the worlds leading EDM acts including the Chainsmokers, Marshmello, NGHTMRE and more.
Traversing dubstep and future bass, Slushii‘s self-released debut EP, Brain Freeze, arrived in the spring of 2016 behind the original single ‘Emptiness.’ With his increasing popularity and crisp productions, expect to see Slushii come to city near you!
He’s a name that’s become synonymous with progressive house since 2010. While he’s been slowly crafting his own path; Scottish producer Grum he has had a stellar 2016 where he has gained worldwide recognition.
With a roster of chart topping releases including ‘Under Your Skin’, ‘U’, ‘Drifting Away’ and ‘Something About You’, Grum not only played the biggest venues in 2016, he’s turned the heads of legends like Above & Beyond, Eric Prydz, Sasha, Kaskade and Steve Angello to name a few.
Morten’s passion for music started early in life. Like many DJ’s, Morten started his career by playing local venues in his home town of Aarhus, a city steeped in Viking roots and history located in central Denmark.
Morten Breum (now known as Morten) is a Danish DJ and producer, currently living in Los Angeles, USA.
Characterized by his eclectic take on progressive, electro-house, and dubstep, Morten has gained backing by some of the biggest names in the industry including Avicii, Tiesto, Axwell, David Guetta and Diplo to name a few.
With a string of hit tracks in 2016 and appearances at the worlds biggest festivals and clubs, you’ll never see, hear, or experience a dull moment with Morten leading the charge of EDM’s Golden Age.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Sub Focus, but in the span of a month, he’s dropped two new singles and now a music video, for his track “Love Divine.”
Three years since his last artist album Torus, Nick Douwma has spent his time wisely. Alongside his busy touring schedule, he’s designed a new studio space in London and has been producing a ton of new music which is set to be released this year.
Nick has described the upcoming Sub Focus album to include a mix of multiple influences and is currently working with a variety of guest vocalists. Sub Focus will return to headling duties with several large US summer festivals booked in for the mid-year; with an extensive headline tour to follow!
Kyle Jensen, better known by his stage name Mekanikal, is one of the United States’ fastest rising talents in the Hard Dance genre. After spending his teenage years learning and developing his sound, Mekanikal got his first major break in 2013 when his remix of T.A.T.A.N.K.A Project’s track “DJ’s Life” was released on Zanzalabs and he had the opportunity to play at DefQon.1 and the first edition of TomorrowWorld.
2016 has been a whirlwind for the rising youngster with several chart-topping releases including ‘Dance With Me’, ‘The Jumpoff’ and ‘Acid Blasted’. Mekanikal also had an impressive booking schedule in 2016 with highly appraised performances at Nocturnal Wonderland, Project Z, Basscon and EDC Las Vegas.
Dayvid Sherman aka SAYMYNAME hails from the greater Los Angeles area, where he has pioneered a new sound that fuses the trap and hardstyle genres. Fans worldwide have labeled SAYMYNAME as the God Father of HARDTRAP.
The iconic SAYMYNAME sound has be widely praised and has seen the support from the likes of Skrillex, DJ Snake, Flosstradamus, NGHTMRE, Slander, GTA, Snails, Excision and more.
