As the most highly criticized genre in music today, Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is often the choice of music discussion which usually ends in an argument. These arguments usually run along the lines of ‘electronic artists do not play traditional instruments, therefore they do not deserve to be labeled as real musicians’. Converting an EDM naysayer can be quite the challenge, but what few don’t understand is the hard work that that can and does go into the production of electronic music.

Just how rock, jazz or acoustic artist uses their instruments, electronic artists also use instruments to create sounds, albeit less conventional ones. Not only does one must have an ear for melody and basic music theory, but to create electronic music one must be skilled in advanced production software. Almost every EDM artist you can think of spends countless hours crafting out the sounds your hear on the radio and in the club. Contrary to popular belief, very few artists today get on stage, press play and spin novelty records.

Swaying the electronic music cynic is a difficult task to undertake but certainly not an impossible one. The following 15 classic songs range from complex and interesting to simple and beautiful. They all contain one common feature and that is they showcase a multitude of talents which prove EDM to be a worthy genre. With that, we give you 15 songs to ease you into Electronic Dance Music.
