Enter Deep State, the hypnotic new artist album from Scotland’s Graeme Shepherd, a.k.a. GRUM.

Pulling you down the rabbit hole, Deep State draws influences from 90’s rave culture, trance and techno for a bruising and brooding take on not only the contemporary dance scene, but life around it.

An anthem for collectivism over collusion, ‘Never Have To Be Alone’s’ spirit echoes that of the Anjuna family; a positive reflection of music bringing us together. Providing a suitably exultant moment on the dance floor, it’s a reminder of Graeme’s ability to write pop-edged riffs as well as dark hearted records.

‘Never Have To Be Alone’ is taken from GRUM’s second studio LP Deep State, coming to Anjunabeats this Autumn. GRUM’s Deep State album tour is on sale now, including multiple dates across North America and Europe. Tickets are available for the tour now here.

‘Deep State’ is available  to pre-order now via Anjunabeats, digitally, on CD and on 2×12″ vinyl.

    • Above & Beyond Announce ‘Group Therapy Weekender’ Australia above-and-beyond-group-therapy-weekender-australia-2022-feature-oz-edm

Group Therapy Weekender Festival  Set To Make Its Australian Debut This December. Australian touring giants Symbiotic and Hardware are joininng  forces for the debut  Australian edition of Above & Beyond’s iconic ‘Group Therapy Weekender’ festival. Featuring a stellar, curated line-up of artists from their labels: Anjunabeats, Anjunadeep & Reflections.  The camping festival, Group Therapy Weekender Australia will be held at Yarra Valley Estate for the band’s first ever multi-day festival down under. Taking place between Friday 16 December and Sunday 18 December in Victoria’s breathtaking Yarra Valley, ‘Group Therapy Weekender Australia’ is an intimate camping getaway for Australia’s ‘Anjunafamily.’ There will also be a program of wellness activities and workshops to enhance the experience, surrounded by the picturesque landscape that surrounds the region.  There will also be an offering of the very best food and drink, from Yarra Valley and beyond. This is the first time the festival has been based in Australia and follows on from the success of ‘Group Therapy Weekender’ at The Gorge, Washington State, which welcomed 23,000 campers last July and ‘Group Therapy Weekender’ London at Dockyards. One of the world’s best-loved electronic groups, ‘Above & Beyond’ have headlined arenas around Australia over the last decade, bringing their anthemic dance songs to tens of thousands of fans. Update: Tuesday November 7, 2022 Anjuna, along with local partners Symbiotic and Hardware have made the difficult decision to relocate the inaugural ‘Group Therapy Weekender Australia’ from the Yarra Valley to central Melbourne.  Same amazing show, minus the camping. “With no reprieve from the rain in sight, it has been decided it’s too risky to proceed with a camping event this year.  The team was faced with two choices: proceed and cross our fingers that the rain will ease, and the land will dry out, or relocate to the city, where we can provide a comfortable experience rain or shine.  The ultimate goal is to deliver the greatest Anjuna event ever to visit Australia, and this can’t confidently be done in unfavourable weather conditions.  The comfort and safety of patrons is always the priority and sliding around a sodden farm for two days isn’t the experience anyone wants to have, particularly for an event’s debut year.  Although the weather has actually cleared up lately, and many were really looking forward to camping, if we’re to heed the word of Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, the current La Niña event may very well continue on through the summer months.” say organisers. ‘Group Therapy Weekender Australia’ will take place under a big top tent at Melbourne Showgrounds in a beautiful, grassy arena that’s just ten minutes from central Melbourne.  Two days, one stage, same line-up (bar a few small tweaks, including the addition of a Deep Set from Anjuna on Sunday!). • Giuseppe Ottaviani & Christian Burns Join Forces On ‘Closer’ giuseppe-ottaviani-christian-burns-closer-oz-edm-feature

After August’s ‘Melody’ with Sarah de Warren, Giuseppe Ottaviani delivers ‘Horizon’s [Part 2]’ another single-worded spellbinder with ‘Closer’. One of the hallmarks of the Italian’s current album project has been pinpointing and spotlighting vocal talent from outside the trance & progressive lanes. ‘Closer’ however is its notable exception. It reteams Giuseppe with a singer-songwriter whose talents have made him one of the A-list’s most sought after. As such, it’s not the first time Giuseppe and Christian Burns’ paths have crossed (‘Brightheart’ from the ‘Alma’ album laying claim to that). In contrast to ‘Brightheart’, but in keeping with the textural sonics of ‘Horizons’ deeper dive, ‘Closer’ brings a collaboration more meditatively and transcendentally tipped in nature. Production-wise, Giuseppe prioritises atmosphere and vision over amp and elevation. His synths maintain a Moog-ish air throughout and Giuseppe weaves any number of other studio intricacies in, supplying it the richest of soundscapes. Working on the principle of less being more, Christian bakes ether and emotion into every syllable of his song. Wistful, while never despondent, yet not traditionally uplifting either, his words rest unitedly on the cusp of hopeful. Tracked every step by Giuseppe’s empathetic production, honest-to-goodness musical alchemy takes place. ‘Horizons [Part 2]’ moves another step closer, as Giuseppe Ottaviani & Christian Burns’ stunning ‘Closer’ collaboration touches down on all good streaming and sales platforms today.

    • Above & Beyond and Marty Longstaff Reunite on ‘Chains’ above-and-beyond-flow-state-oz-edm-2019

Premiered during the band’s Group Therapy 450 celebration at The Drumsheds London last September, ‘Chains’ is Above & Beyond’s second single of 2022 with singer Marty Longstaff and follows the release of ‘Gratitude’ earlier this year. ‘Chains’ has been a mainstay in Above & Beyond’s sets over the past year, played extensively during their 70,000-ticket Anjunafamily Reunion Tour last winter, plus two sold-out Amsterdam shows, Anjunabeats Europe in Poland, Tomorrowland, and more. ‘Chains’ was one of two Above & Beyond original productions to appear on their Anjunabeats Volume 16 compilation, alongside ‘Projection’. More commonly found performing under the moniker The Lake Poets, Marty Longstaff rose to prominence with the moving acoustic ballad ‘Shipyards’. The song accompanies the opening credits to the sleeper hit Netflix documentary, ’Sunderland ’Till I Die’. The Sunderland singer-songwriter is the voice of Above & Beyond’s ‘Tightrope’, ‘Flying By Candlelight’ and ‘Gratitude’. “‘Jump and the net will appear,’ a fleeting remark from a colleague of Tony’s at Warner Records has always percolated during songwriting. With the uncertainty of the last few years, it reared its head again and ‘Chains’ was born. Marty’s tones fit the track perfectly, reminding us that a step into the unknown, might just be putting your best foot forward.” – Above & Beyond Above & Beyond’s extensive touring schedule rolls throughout summer 2022 and into autumn. Their Group Therapy Weekender London festival takes place at Dockyards London in September, with a sold-out Los Angeles show to mark Group Therapy 500 and appearances at Creamfields, EDC Orlando, EH1 Festival, and more also in the diary. • Emma Hewitt and Markus Schulz Join Forces On ‘Into My Arms’ emma-hewitt-into-my-arms-markus-schulz-oz-edm-2022-feature

Aussie superstar Emma Hewitt collaborates with Markus Schulz on club floor translation of new single “Into My Arms.” When we dropped the Original and nowifi Remix of Emma Hewitt’s return, ‘Into My Arms’, into your system earlier in the month, we promised you an organically emerging release. Well, that evolution continues today, as ‘Into My Arms’ adds heavyweight Markus Schulz to its cast list. Schulz has given ‘Into My Arms’ its first club floor translation, and one that brilliantly equalizes Emma’s bittersweet evocations with an uplift that knows little (if any!) bounds. Courtesy of its official video which premieres today, Emma & Markus’ collaboration has also been lent a stunning visual dimension. Shot on the wide-open expanses of California’s famed Salton Sea, its free-rein sensibility brilliantly echoes the newly elevated tone of ‘Into My Arms’. On the occasion of the partnership, Emma took some time to share insights into the writing & composition of ‘Into My Arms’. She says, “When first writing this song – as I so often have been over the years – I was separated from many loved ones in other parts of the world. As the time-and-distance gap grew larger, I began to wonder when, or even if, I would reunite with some of those people in this lifetime. Perhaps they will only be dreamt of for the rest of this journey, but I know I will visit them often in my memories.” Few voices are as instantly recognizable as that of Emma Hewitt. From her quiet coastal-town beginnings as an acoustic singer/songwriter to packed clubs and some of the largest electronic and dance festival stages in the world, her career has spanned over a decade and has included Billboard #1’s, IDMA and International Songwriter Awards, and collaborations with some of electronic music’s most notable producers. The next chapter of Emma Hewitt’s evolution sees her return to her singer/songwriter roots and 80’s tinged indie influences on a self-produced full-length solo album set to be released on Black Hole Recordings later this year. Blending Emma’s beautifully disarming innermost with a production that’ll land at the very heart of prime-time floors, the seismic and ethereal Emma Hewitt x Markus Schulz’s ‘Into My Arms’ comes to sales and streaming platforms today. • Saudi’s Top Female DJ Cosmicat Releases Debut Vocal Underground Single “Toxic Romance” Cosmicat-toxic-romance-2021-oz-edm

Saudi Arabia’s first and leading female DJ and producer Cosmicat makes her stunning debut with the first-ever single “Toxic Romance,” introducing herself to the global market as a sultry underground queen with both dancefloor and emotive potential. The track uses big-room synths and a rumbling, techno-influenced bassline to contrast exquisitely with her own feathery vocals; in this way, Cosmicat creates a soundscape that is both bold and delicate, personifying her own identity as a female artist who is trailblazing the electronic music scene in a culture that has traditionally forbid women from making any style of music. “Toxic Romance” is only the beginning for Cosmicat, so stay tuned to see what’s next as she establishes herself among electronic’s most exciting rising artists. “When I was working on ‘Toxic Romance,’ all I had on my mind was that I wanted to create the sound I love. It got me romanticizing about my relationship with it, as it’s a human being; how it was there for me every time I needed it or how I always come around to seek and chase it. On the sonic level, I wanted to add a big-sounding synth to make the track sound bold and highlight how synthesizers and electronic music can coexist with gentle whispering and my own vocals. I believe this makes ‘Toxic Romance’ sounding delicate and personal, while still being dancefloor-friendly.” – Cosmicat As she rises from the underground, the world is ready to be introduced to Nouf Sufyani – better known as Cosmicat – as the first and leading Saudi female DJ & producer in the electronic scene. Born and raised in Jeddah, Cosmicat always had a strong passion for music in a world where it was considered taboo; there were limited record and music equipment stores and no live performances. Cultural protocol meant that she had to keep her passion a secret, so Cosmicat worked toward the more realistic 9-5 career but never gave up on her dream of producing. She became a “bedroom DJ” and taught herself everything she needed to know about producing in private. In 2019 she performed at the first music festival in Saudi Arabia – MDLBEAST’s Soundstorm (which was also the biggest in the Middle East). Her reach quickly expanded to Bahrain, Lebanon, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, where she performed, and now she’s gearing up for the release of her debut original single. I believe that Nouf is a perfect example showing that it’s important to be persistent and take the chance whenever it arises. Currently, there are more female DJs in Saudi Arabia who support and empower one another, with Cosmicat being the first/leading one, paving the way for other Saudi female DJs. She also hosts her own TV show. Privately she’s a cat lady (hence the artist’s name). Her personal favorites are Solomun, Peggy Gou, and Jamie Jones. Article image by Khaled Nadershah
