You can’t have a discussion about the world’s biggest dance music producer/DJs without spending some time talking about Maceo Plex. For the last five-plus years the American has been producing dancefloor classic after dancefloor classic, garnering an impressive discography that is impossible to imitate. His skill behind the decks is equally as impressive, and he is adept at closing out a festival as he is headlining a 10,000 plus capacity techno warehouse. Whether Printworks, Dimensions festival, Circoloco or Boiler Room, there aren’t many events or festivals that hasn’t invited Maceo Plex to their DJ booth. To complement his set at Pitch Music & Arts Festival, the American will also play a headline show in Melbourne at 170 Russell. After a seven-year absence, local demand for Maceo Plex is extremely high – expect this to sell out in record time.

Located deep within the circuitry of a mechanical alien host known as Maetrik you will find a complex web of synaptic disbursements resembling what could be called a soul. And this soul which drives its host and manipulates it’s every move is finally beginning to emerge. Its name is Maceo Plex. The emergence of such an entity has been the result of a need for feeling, a need for interplanetary funk. We as humans consider this need a feeling, a feeling rooted in emotion, and emotion being the very basis of humanity. Maceo Plex is on a quest to fulfil his need to inject feeling and funk into the world, and he’s already proving to be quite productive. With deep and funky works of audible engineering for the label Crosstown Rebels in the form of a full-length album titled “Life Index”, a night with Maceo Plex will be one of galactic proportions.

To explain the evolutionary process behind Maceo’s existence we must travel back to1993, to the beginning of his creativity. At the start…Maceo was intrigued by a pair of circular shaped objects designed for holding discs created from vinyl that produced vibrations resulting in sound and music. Soon he began conjuring up mixes of techno, electro, and house music that quickly gained him popularity within the early 90s rave culture.

But in 1997, while heavily influenced by the sounds of other modern funk theorists such as Model 500, Kenny Larkin, Idjut Boyz, Convextion and many more. Maceo Plex began experimenting with hardware modules containing knobs and keys to form his early musical compositions. Seduced by the sounds of techno & electro, Maceo grew into a technologically advanced being later to be known by various names such as Mariel Ito or Maetrik. After many years of prolific works on such labels as Treibstoff, Dumb Unit, Cocoon, Audiomatique, Modern Love, Mothership, to name a few, Maceo aka Maetrik travelled the world playing in some of the best clubs such as Rex, Cocoon, Fabric, Womb, and many more…

    • Spencer Brown releases div003 EP – ‘Reforma / Polybomba’

Spencer Brown continues his string of impressive releases on his newly minted diviine label with ‘Reforma / Polybomba.’ The ominous ‘Reforma’ shows off Spencer’s darker production side with its brooding techno sounds (plus it’s paired with a remix from the iconic Weska). ‘Polybomba’ skews more towards the progressive indie-dance side of the house music spectrum and delivers on an ID Spencer’s fans have coveted for quite some time. A who’s who of the electronic music elite have been supporting spencer’s music in their sets including Adam Beyer, John Digweed, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, and Ida Engberg, to name a few. “The third release on diviine showcases my darker side,” Spencer says. “‘Reforma’ is a groove tool that has been exploding in my sets. It was first debuted in Chicago, and the crowd reaction blew me away. The main sample along with the drum fill are both me playing the drums! ‘Polybomba is a progressive indie-dance leaning stomper. I opened my massive diviine inspirations show in San Francisco with this track, and it’s been a highly requested ID since then. Both tracks fit perfectly on diviine as “chill bangers” with creative freedom.” With regards to tapping Weska as a remixer for ‘Reforma’ Spencer adds “I’ve looked up to Weska as a producer for years. My most played track on Spotify in 2019 was Weska’s “EQ64.” During the pandemic, we became friends and worked on a few collaborative ideas (all unreleased at the moment). It’s truly an honor to have him as the first remixer ever on diviine with this killer roller.” “I’ve always looked up to Spencer as an artist, a DJ, and as a genuinely cool dude, so I was stoked when he asked me to give Reforma a spin. The original track is pretty percussive with a few melodic elements and a vocal sample, so I had a lot of creative freedom when writing it. The result is a deep, chugging, and slightly progressive groover that I hope you all will love to play,” Weska shares. • Alan Fitzpatrick Injects Nostalgia Into Peak-Time Techno Two-Tracker ‘Stronger / Chant’ alan-fitzpatrick-2022-oz-edm-feature

The UK-based veteran constructs a pair of nostalgia-laced techno weapons for his label debut on Factory 93. Southampton’s venerated producer Alan Fitzpatrick washes over with nostalgia on his new double-sided single ‘Stronger / Chant,’ serving as his label debut on the burgeoning Factory 93 imprint. A universally respected and in-demand producer, Alan Fitzpatrick has succeeded in carving out his own musical niche within the ever-expanding genre of techno, earning him the reputation of a seemingly unstoppable source of hit music. This ability is on full display on his debut appearance with Factory 93 Records, ‘Stronger / Chant.’ “Stronger” kicks off with hard and crispy drums before a well-timed backspin effect gives way to a piano-and breaks-combo that will transport clubbers back to 1992. As the kick comes barreling back in, chopped-up diva vocals soar through the mix before everything cuts out to unleash a flurry of rave stabs. The track absorbs all the best elements of classic rave into a peak-time techno mind-melter. “This track was born during the early lockdown stages of covid,” says Alan Fitzpatrick. “I was just reminiscing on the good old days and memories of early rave culture.” says Alan Fitzpatrick. “Nostalgia crept in a lot during this time, and I wanted to express that through the frustration of uncertainty around touring.” “Chant” is a more straight-ahead warehouse workout with its relentless beats and chunky low-end. Ethereal vocals and pads give the track an eerie tinge as it develops, with skittering hats and claps twisting through the mix to add to its driving intensity. “A nod to the tribal techno vibes of the ‘90s and early noughties; I really love the energy in this track, and I think it’s a great pairing with ‘Stronger’ due to the fact they are very different,” he adds. “Both are packed with energy and I’m excited to share them with the world.” Alan Fitzpatrick has been pushing the underground culture ever-forward for more than a decade and counting, and his debut release on Factory 93 honors his roots in the best way imaginable. Alan Fitzpatrick’s new release ‘Stronger / Chant’ is available on all platforms via Factory 93 Records.

    • Carl Cox Announces ‘Electronic Generations,’ His First Album in 10 Years carl-cox-2022-new-album-oz-edm

DJ legend Carl Cox finally reveals details of this brand-new artist album, ‘Electronic Generations’ his first record in over 10 years. With the announcement also comes another new track release, ‘How It Makes You Feel’ with Nicole Moudaber, out now. This techno juggernaut is the second ‘pre-mix’ release from the album, following the first single, ‘Speed Trials on Acid’ earlier this year – a collaboration with his friend and fellow DJ Fatboy Slim. With its relentless synth chops and pounding melodies, ‘How It Makes You Feel’ levitates into a ruthless percussion delirium, before a high octane breakdown tops off the hardcore house techno hybrid sound. It’s another bold statement from the King of techno and another exciting taste of his forthcoming new album ‘Electronic Generations.’ ‘How It Makes You Feel’ is the second time Carl and Nicole have collaborated, following their acclaimed 2014 release ‘See You Next Tuesday.’ Nicole first came to the attention of Carl when she signed to his label Intec Records back in 2009. Since then the pair have become firm friends. Carl invited Nicole to remix his own track ‘Chemistry’ in 2011 and Nicole Moudaber has played alongside Carl Cox at countless festivals and clubs including his Carl Cox & Friends festival stages and Carl’s historic Space Ibiza residency. When the opportunity arose to collaborate again, neither hesitated. “In today’s darkness of techno I wanted to create something more jovial. So the original is quite an easy track to enjoy, it’s very bubbly and bouncy. But with this new version Nicole has made a very dark twisted re-imagining. It’s now very much epic techno – which you have to play from beginning to end to get the full experience. It takes you on a journey, and it just gets stronger and stronger with its twists and turns. Nicole is a genius. She’s able to take my original concept which might not be totally the kind of record she would make, but she likes a challenge and she set the bar high and ran with it. I think she’s done a wonderful job with this one.” – Carl Cox “When Carl asked me to collaborate again, this time on one of his new album cuts, I knew this track had to deliver that high-powered energy and rhythm that we always bring when we perform. ‘HOW IT MAKES YOU FEEL’ has been absolutely smashing dance floors worldwide, so I am excited to finally unleash this monster tune!” – Nicole Moudaber Ignited by an internal combustion engine fueled by raw emotion, Nicole Moudaber is one of the techno world’s most iconic and hardworking contemporary artists. The global reach of her MOOD empire has led to Nicole curating In The Mood festival stages at the world’s biggest events: Electric Daisy Carnival (New York, Las Vegas & Orlando), California’s Escape, and BPM Festival (Mexico & Portugal) and she’s played every clubbing institution possible including DC-10 in Ibiza, London superclub fabric, New York’s Output, and a long list of clubs across multiple continents including North America, South America, Europe and Asia. From the birth of dance music culture to the global force that electronic music is today, Carl has been an innovator at the forefront every step of the way, ‘Electronic Generations’ is the next stage in this journey and the beginning of an exciting new chapter as an album recording artist with BMG. Showcasing a fusion of Carl’s unique live electronic sound, the epic 17-track ‘Electronic Generations’ is the result of Carl’s mind blowing hybrid-live sets which he’s been successfully showcasing over the last few years. Anyone that’s been to one of these shows will have witnessed Carl in his element, remixing, producing and creating music while he plays. With the first lockdown Carl finally had time to focus on putting this sound on record, and spent months in his Melbourne studio creating music and experimenting as a live electronic artist. The result is Carl Cox at his best, a tour de force which you can feel he has given everything to. It’s an insight into the heart and soul of a hugely established and much-loved artist who 30 years into his career, is still keen to take bold risks and create something entirely new. “I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to share this album. As a live artist and a DJ I get to play all over the world and to see people enjoying the shared experience of being together and dancing. I’ve pulled together all the elements that I’ve learned from watching those crowds, added my sound and tried to bring you a true electronic music experience.” – Carl Cox Carl Cox has always been at the top of his game. A veteran of acid house and a pioneer of British rave culture embedded deep within the fabric of electronic music history, his ever evolving sound and relentless energy means that he remains one of the most in demand DJs on the planet. A musical ambassador, a dance music pioneer, label owner, three deck wizard, King of Ibiza – you name it, Carl’s been there and done it, never losing sight of his passions – playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life. 2021 saw Carl release his first ever autobiography Oh Yes Oh Yes which topped charts and won press acclaim everywhere. ‘Electronic Generations’ is out September 16th via BMG. The digital version of the album also comes with a second volume of pre-remixes, including the new track ‘How It Makes You Feel’ with Nicole Moudaber, ‘Deep Space X’ with Juan Atkins and ‘Speed Trials on Acid’ with Fatboy Slim.
