Roni Size is one of the few artists who took on the challenge (and succeeded) of building a live show around the unforgiving genre that is drum’n’bass. A true veteran of the game, Roni’s rise to fame was propelled by the release of his ‘New Forms’ album in 1997. The album was a monumental boost for d’n’b and with it’s release it landed the genre straight on to the doorstep of music news channels globally and of course… it also made plenty of people sit up and pay attention to Roni Size.

Last year was just as big as any for Roni. It played host to a jam-packed touring schedule with headline and festival shows essentially on tap. To pick a few from the bunch, he featured at Ram Records’ NYE show at O2 Academy Brixton, BBC 6 Music festival, Love Saves the Day, Secret Garden Party, Glastonbury, EDC, Frequency, Creamfields – and plenty more. In 2017 we’ve already seen Roni play the 5th Annual Moonshine Music Festival, another Glastonbury, Soundwave Croatia and Sonnemondsterne.XXI.

To acknowledge the 20th anniversary of ‘New Forms’, the album will be re-released to include a deluxe 4CD/2LP reissue. The release also includes a ‘New Forms’ 20th anniversary live hardware mix assembled by Roni which features remixes and re-edits from drum’n’bass legends Grooverider, Source Direct, and Krust.

In celebration of ‘New Forms’, Roni has announced an epic eight-date NZ/AU tour. The show will include a ‘new A/V experience which promises a combined instrument and hardware show featuring state-of-the-art projection mapping in the form of a ‘light box’’.

Roni Size’s whole life has been about building something new from whatever was around him. From Bristol youthclub parties, through the white heat of rave and the founding moments of jungle and drum’n’bass, to transforming underground electronic music into something that could be played by a live band on the biggest arena and festival stages, he has at each stage created completely afresh – not just a sound or style but an entire methodology of how music can be made. And each time, that new creation has reflected his heritage, his surroundings and the precise moment in which he’s operating.

20-years ago, The Mercury Prize win for his ‘New Forms’ album brought D’n’B to the forefront of dance-music news, making even the rest of the industry – where reactions had up until that point been bemused – sit up and pay attention. For several years thereafter Roni and team were on top of the world, succeeding as solo artists as well as a collective, maintaining underground credibility yet receiving Brit awards and even collaborating with some of the biggest names in hip hop.

2016 was a vintage year for Roni. Live shows included Ram Records’ NYE show at O2 Academy Brixton, a headline show at the BBC 6 Music festival and a summer festival season that began at Love Saves the Day with a curated Full Cycle Stage Takeover for Arcadia Afterburner and included Secret Garden Party, Evolution, Glastonbury, Blissfields, NASS, EDC, Dour, Boomtown, Frequency, Lowlands, Creamfields, SW4, Outlook, and many more. Roni relaunched Full Cycle Records with fellow co-founder, DJ Krust, with the releases drawing praise from The Wire, Dummy, UKF, Mista Jam, 6 Music, Gilles Peterson, Radio 1, 1Xtra, DJ Mag and beyond.

It is now in 2017, as we fully appreciate the legacy that Roni has created for drum’n’bass, that the next chapter begins. Roni has announced UK tour dates featuring his groundbreaking new audio visual live show, a combined live instrument and hardware show that features state of the art production and 3D effect projection mapping celebrating 20 years of New Forms. Roni will be taking this groundbreaking live show on the road as well as DJ’ing at the very best clubs and festivals throughout the globe… and watch out for some very special surprises along the way!

The man from Bristol shows no signs of letting up, as 2017 looks set to be one of his best yet.

    • ShockOne Announces Dark Machine Records 2022 Warehouse Tour Dates + Releases New Single shockone-dark-machine-records-oz-edm-2020-feature

Shockone & Lee Mvtthews team up on uplifting new dnb heavy hitter ‘thinkin about’ + announce AU/NZ Dark Machine Records warehouse tour . Perth based DnB master ShockOne has returned following recent hit ‘Follow Me’ which saw the artist continue to push the boundaries for the bass music scene. On this new track ‘Thinkin About’, ShockOne has teamed up with NZ music legends Lee Mvtthews to deliver an inspiring uptempo dance track with a fiery DnB bed. The track combines an ethereal vocal topline with classic club music elements including a huge bass line and textural drum beat that pushes the song into the mainstream with an infectious energy that is bursting at the seams. This collaboration sees both artists use their impressive experience and ability in creating dynamic bass focused music to deliver an instant classic in ‘Thinkin About’. Both being signed to the ShockOne founded Dark Machine Records, this collaboration is meant to be and the song speaks for itself in terms of musical synchronicity and likeminded artistry. On the collaboration ShockOne shares, “‘Thinkin About’ was a really fun track to work on with Lee Mvtthews. It’s our first collaborative effort and I’m stoked with how it came out. I feel like this song really captures that feeling of hedonism and reckless abandon when you’re out at a rave with mates. I hope the audience feels the same way!” Graham and Tom from Lee Mvtthews further share, “when Karl (ShockOne) sent us over the idea, there was nothing to think about, this was a no-brainer. It had all the elements of a great track, so we came in and connected the dots. With production reminiscent of RÜFÜS DU SOL, Kanine, and Flume, it’s the perfect blend of rave and radio. ‘The vocals were initially written for another track, so to us, it kind of felt like a remix, and sometimes there’s a magic in remixes seldom found in an original piece of work. This was a unique experience for us writing it and we hope it feels the same when listening to it.” ShockOne has been making waves in the dance and electronic music scene for the past decade with his 2013 debut album ‘Universus’ charting in the UK and New Zealand as well as landing at #1 in the ARIA album charts. After this success and touring extensively across Europe as well as remixing singles for iconic artists such as DJ Snake, Dillon Francis, NGHTMRE & What So Not, the talented producer has gone on to start his own label Dark Machine Records. This label was formed to help promote the extensive bass music scene across the region. In late 2020, ShockOne dropped hit single ‘Follow Me’ which was added to rotation on triple j, clocked over 6 million streams across platforms and appeared in the top 20 on the Shazam chart here in Australia. Lee Mvtthews are one of the biggest dance/electronic acts out of New Zealand / Aotearoa currently with a reputation for infectious, energetic drum and bass music. The pair have gone from strength to strength winning ‘Best Artist’ 3 years running at the George FM awards as well as ‘Best Electronic Artist’ at the Aotearoa Music Awards in 2020.  Across their discography the duo have amassed over 25 million streams with tracks like ‘Takeover’ reaching #17 on the Apple Music charts and #77 on Spotify Global charts. With all these past successes, Lee Mvtthews are looking to continue their exponential rise to the top of the electronic music heavens. This October, ShockOne is launching another AU/NZ national tour of the Dark Machine Records Warehouse parties with support from Lee Mvtthews and Koven. Hitting six cities at venues including The Metro Theatre Sydney, The Industrique Melbourne, The Triffid Brisbane, Lion Arts Factory Adelaide and more, this tour is sure to be one to remember. • Koven Release New Single ‘Take It Away’ koven-take-it-away-oz-edm-feature

Koven’s rise just before the pandemic took hold a contemporary story of a duo’s dedication to their craft, which can be seen through both an electric live presence and also the sheer quality of their releases. These are elements which they never pulled the brakes on during lockdown; their work ethic is second to none, shown in the creation of their virtual reality club space as well as a number of phenomenal live sets which brought Katie Koven into fan’s living rooms. Although having re-kickstarted a jam packed touring schedule (including dates in Europe, New Zealand, Australia and North America), on top of dropping several releases in its lead up on UKF and NCS, now Koven have returned to Monstercat following the mammoth success of their album ‘Butterfly Effect’ which premiered on the label. It’s a move that sees them come full-circle, in a similar dynamic to their recent set at Belgium’s Rampage festival in March, the groundbreaking show which brought their beloved ‘Butterfly Effect’ to tens of thousands. “Take It Away” is the brand new single from Max and Katie, with Max sitting in the production booth and Katie lending her award-winning vocal prowess to the mix. Featuring the same depth which is notable within the entirety of Koven’s catalog, it’s heartbreak hidden in the high-energy drums, recounting what it’s like to let go of a relationship for fear of the void that follows. It takes its listener once more into their emotive landscapes which many have become familiar with. Something which is apparent at Koven’s shows, when Katie takes the mic and inspires crowds to follow their lyrics word for word. Adding to the record’s epicness, it also features the ‘Parallax Orchestra’, the same group behind the Eminem and Clean Bandit shows at Wembley Arena, as well as Bring Me The Horizon and Architects UK #1 albums. A fact adding to its musicality and already the pairs impressive profile. Max shares, “We started the EP at Middle Farm Studios in July 2021 and “Take It Away” was actually the first track we wrote, so it made sense to start here with the releases too. We then got a knock on the door of the studio and it was my old music theory tutor who was in recording with another band. He’s been doing all the string arrangements for Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, and others, so the strings you can hear on this record were arranged by him and recorded by the Parallax Orchestra!” Katie adds, “I’m so excited for this to be our first single back after not releasing anything since last year. I think it’s something quite different for us but really special. It’s such a pretty track, it’s heartbreaking but also hopeful. I hope people connect with it the way we have.” The softly spoken intro carried through by Katie, with its orchestral undertones, draws you into the record’s intense energy as the record kicks into play. It’s one more certified mainstage anthem from Koven, as the summer season begins. With a stacked list of headline shows and festival dates forthcoming for Koven, EDC (USA), Love Saves The Day (UK), Tomorrowland (BE), as well as a full package of music in the pipeline, the duo are staying true to what made them stand out, with their success a testament to their authenticity. 2022 is a new chapter for Koven, but they’re still following the same explosive ascent.
