Back in July we dropped the news of a brand new music festival that is set to hit the Gold Coast this Novemeber/December.
SandTunes festival was set to take place on Coolangatta Beach over November 30 and December 1, but organisers have now confirmed it will be relocated to Metricon Stadium.
The festival which is set to host the likes of global superstars Travis Scott, CHVRCHES, Logic, Carly Rae Jepsen and more, came under scrutiny from local residents who petitioned to have the two day festival moved away from the beach.
“Despite our vision of staging SandTunes on the beach we’ve come to appreciate the many advantages of hosting it within a world-class multi-purpose Metricon Stadium, which has a storied history of live music and festival events including Foo Fighters, the iconic Big Day Out and the blockbuster stadium show next February 2020 with Queen and Adam Lambert, also promoted by TEG Dainty,” – Paul Dainty (TEG Dainty founder and CEO)
TEG chief executive Geoff Jones added: “While Coolangatta presented as the perfect backdrop to host this event, and despite Gold Coast City Council approval, it has become increasingly apparent that local businesses and residents are now not in favour of that location. We have listened – and we are acting.”
Festival organisers have noted they are commited to bringing world class acts to the Gold Coast and can’t imagine SandTunes being hosted anywhere else than the Gold Coast.
