Brookes Brothers

One of the most widely respected names in drum ‘n’ bass, the Brookes Brothers are gearing up to release their second album, ‘Orange Lane’, a thirteen-track LP filled to the brim with upbeat and soulful production. Since releasing their first single in 2005 on Danny Wheeler’s W10 Records, the Brookes Brothers have become a staple in the drum ‘n’ bass scene and made their Viper debut all the way back in 2006 as the eighth single ever released on the label with ‘Someone / Promise’. In 2008, this was followed hotly by their chart-topping single ‘Tear You Down’ which spent two weeks atop the UK Dance Chart and fifteen weeks in the top twenty.

After signing exclusively to Viper in 2013, the Brookes Brothers released more chart-topping singles, including ‘Carry Me On’ which was dubbed the ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, and ‘Anthem’ which made it to BBC 1Xtra’s ‘A’ List.

Now, six years after their first album was released on Fresh and Adam F’s Breakbeat Kaos label, the Brookes Brothers have returned with their long-awaited sophomore LP, ‘Orange Lane’, another masterpiece that showcases the brothers’ unmatched musicality and diversity.

Drum ‘n’ bass power imprint Viper Recordings are bringing their iconic events brand ‘Viper Live’ back to Australia and New Zealand, for the highly anticipated Brookes Brothers ‘Orange Lane LP Tour’. Supported by kiwi household name Trei, and emerging Australian producers Ekko & Sidetrack, ViperLive will land in eight cities across Australia and New Zealand this October.

The album features a variety of vocalists, including: ShezAr’s soulful vocals and Bossman Birdie’s smooth rap breakdown complementing the empowering sounds of ‘Flashing Lights’ – while industry favourite Charlotte Haining lends her grace and charm to ‘Waiting Right Here’, and Pierre Da Silvaadds a warmth to the acoustic sounds of ‘Times Of Trouble’, as well as the album closer ‘We Got Love’. Tracks like ‘Movin’ On’, ‘All About You’ and ‘So Many Times’ give us a taste of classic Brookes Brothers funk and soul-driven drum ‘n’ bass, while the opening track ‘The One’ (featuring ShockOne) engulfs us in a wall of bass and steel-pans to start the album off with.

Combining soul, funk, disco and a whole lot more in a way no one else can, the Brookes Brothershave truly reached new heights with this LP. ‘Orange Lane’ is destined to be a modern classic.

Now signing exclusively with Viper Recordings, TREiwill be working on his next string of singles and EPs for the label in lead up to his next studio album.

Ekko & Sidetrack (AU)

Ekko-Sidetrack

Brothers Jeff and Jono Hansen – aka. Ekko & Sidetrack – are an Australian production duo currently taking the drum ‘n’ bass scene by storm. First turning their attention to music production in 2008, the duo has since secured a global fanbase of both punters and high-profile artists alike as a result of their distinctly versatile and original production style. After dropping their debut release ‘Alone Without You / AM PM’ on Viper sister label Viper VIP in September last year, the duo have since gone from strength to strength, supporting artists such as Friction, Pendulum, Sigma, Matrix & Futurebound, Brookes Brothers and Netsky on tour. Their second release and most distinctive single to date, ‘Burgle / One Time’ makes it clear that the ascent of Ekko & Sidetrack is well and truly under way.

    • Koven Release New Single ‘Take It Away’ koven-take-it-away-oz-edm-feature

Koven’s rise just before the pandemic took hold a contemporary story of a duo’s dedication to their craft, which can be seen through both an electric live presence and also the sheer quality of their releases. These are elements which they never pulled the brakes on during lockdown; their work ethic is second to none, shown in the creation of their virtual reality club space as well as a number of phenomenal live sets which brought Katie Koven into fan’s living rooms. Although having re-kickstarted a jam packed touring schedule (including dates in Europe, New Zealand, Australia and North America), on top of dropping several releases in its lead up on UKF and NCS, now Koven have returned to Monstercat following the mammoth success of their album ‘Butterfly Effect’ which premiered on the label. It’s a move that sees them come full-circle, in a similar dynamic to their recent set at Belgium’s Rampage festival in March, the groundbreaking show which brought their beloved ‘Butterfly Effect’ to tens of thousands. “Take It Away” is the brand new single from Max and Katie, with Max sitting in the production booth and Katie lending her award-winning vocal prowess to the mix. Featuring the same depth which is notable within the entirety of Koven’s catalog, it’s heartbreak hidden in the high-energy drums, recounting what it’s like to let go of a relationship for fear of the void that follows. It takes its listener once more into their emotive landscapes which many have become familiar with. Something which is apparent at Koven’s shows, when Katie takes the mic and inspires crowds to follow their lyrics word for word. Adding to the record’s epicness, it also features the ‘Parallax Orchestra’, the same group behind the Eminem and Clean Bandit shows at Wembley Arena, as well as Bring Me The Horizon and Architects UK #1 albums. A fact adding to its musicality and already the pairs impressive profile. Max shares, “We started the EP at Middle Farm Studios in July 2021 and “Take It Away” was actually the first track we wrote, so it made sense to start here with the releases too. We then got a knock on the door of the studio and it was my old music theory tutor who was in recording with another band. He’s been doing all the string arrangements for Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, and others, so the strings you can hear on this record were arranged by him and recorded by the Parallax Orchestra!” Katie adds, “I’m so excited for this to be our first single back after not releasing anything since last year. I think it’s something quite different for us but really special. It’s such a pretty track, it’s heartbreaking but also hopeful. I hope people connect with it the way we have.” The softly spoken intro carried through by Katie, with its orchestral undertones, draws you into the record’s intense energy as the record kicks into play. It’s one more certified mainstage anthem from Koven, as the summer season begins. With a stacked list of headline shows and festival dates forthcoming for Koven, EDC (USA), Love Saves The Day (UK), Tomorrowland (BE), as well as a full package of music in the pipeline, the duo are staying true to what made them stand out, with their success a testament to their authenticity. 2022 is a new chapter for Koven, but they’re still following the same explosive ascent.

    • QUIX goes DnB on “Enter With Caution” quix-enter-with-caution-feature-oz-edm

Press play on “Enter With Caution” and you know you’re listening to drum n bass perfection. With an alluring and melodic dnb production from QUIX, it seems like Alix Robson’s vocals were made for an anthemic tune like this. The bright and melodic dnb single has an energetic bassline with an orchestral background and driving pianos, which matches the passion behind Alix’s vocals on the track. With a production reminiscent of early Netsky, QUIX digs into his drum n bass prowess to align with the vocal he received from Alix. On the production process, he says: “It all started when I was sent the demo vocal from Alix…I stopped everything I was doing and listened to it for about 10 straight minutes.  It was so magical and powerful all in one and I knew it needed the most triumphant instrumental!  I got to work ASAP and after roughly 6 different drop ideas, 15 different session files and 25 exported versions I finally got there and BOOM here is Enter With Caution!!!  This beautiful vocal from Alix was the key to unlocking the power of this song, and with the hectic orchestral drum and bass dinger behind it, I knew we had something very special.”  – QUIX Hailing all the way from New Zealand, QUIX initially traveled to North America in 2017 for 10 shows and finished up doing an astonishing 42. He has been tearing up the trap scene ever since, continuously shaking new ground with his unique sound design. Touring worldwide, including headline tours that included Coachella, EDC, and Ultra – QUIX has spanned the globe from North America to Australia, New Zealand, Asia and beyond.  His live sets combine an eclectic selection of bass music paired with a personally curated, and often in-house, wonder of visual storytelling – resulting in an unforgettable and oft lauded experience.  His music – creatively merging genres with powerful vocals, while staying true to his signature sound -has spanned major releases on Dim Mak, Disciple, and Universal.  All while garnering international acclaim and racking up hundreds of millions of streams.
