What So Not Unveils New EP ‘Motions.
Australian DJ and producer What So Not, known for his innovative sound and electrifying performances, has just released his latest EP, Motions. Following the success of his Dance Dance Revival tour and the unforgettable Bunnings Warehouse party, What So Not (aka Chris Emerson) presents a collection of four emotive electronic tracks, described as “a love letter to dance music.”
Motions showcases a diverse array of electronic compositions, including the Top 40 Shazam hit “Lights Go Out” featuring Benson and Lucy Lucy, as well as the newly released single “Realise” with French producer Habstrakt and noir-pop vocalist Maiah Manser. Emerson reflects on the EP, stating, “The four tracks on Motions are grown from the same garden, just blooming in different seasons. This has been my exploration through this EP.”
Leading the EP is “Realise,” a captivating track that sees What So Not team up with Habstrakt and Maiah Manser. Emerson shares his excitement about the collaboration: “I first came across Maiah Manser when I saw her doing operatic experimentations for film scores. Her range and depth were breathtaking. As soon as I heard her voice, I knew I had to work with her!”
The EP also includes “Tower In The Woods,” another standout track featuring MNDR, who previously collaborated with What So Not on “Slow Motion.” Emerson speaks highly of their creative synergy: “MNDR is one of the most genuinely cool people I’ve come across in the industry. We hit it off immediately, writing the vocals for both songs in one session.”
Accompanying each track on the EP is a cinematic visualiser, created by Emerson himself. He describes this creative process as deeply personal: “I have a place I go to in my mind for each song I make. With advancements in technology, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed diving headfirst into this new medium of expression myself.”
As What So Not prepares to return to Australia for the highly anticipated Bunnings Warehouse party and to headline triple j’s One Night Stand alongside G Flip and Ruel, he will first make a stop at the iconic Burning Man festival in Nevada. It’s a journey that promises to be as unforgettable as his music.
