Coachella ‘has been postponed until October’ after authorities in the area confirmed three new cases of coronavirus.

Coachella, one of the most anticipated dates on the music calendar that was scheduled to take place next month, has reportedly been postponed to October in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

Authorities in the Coachella Valley region confirmed three new cases of the coronavirus on Monday.

The cases were confirmed by the Riverside County Department of Public Health.

Dr. Cameron Kaiser, county public health officer, said the three infections were either the result of travel into areas where COVID-19 has been confirmed or contact with a known case.

Two of the individuals have been isolated at home, Kaiser said, while the third is being cared for at a Coachella Valley hospital.

Postponing the massive festival series until October is a huge endeavor involving hundreds of artists and their representatives, as well as hundreds of contractors and vendors and tens of thousands of employees. Artists are frequenting touring during the US fall months and while organizers aren’t likely to get all the performers to agree to move, sources say that if enough of the big headline acts — this year’s Coachella mammoth lineup included headliners Frank Ocean, Rage Against the Machine and Travis Scott — then the festival can be moved.

Organizers will release an official statement within the next 48 hours if the move is possible. If not, the 2020 versions of Coachella will likely be canceled. We will keep this post updated.

UPDATE

At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns. While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.

Coachella will now take place on October 9, 10 and 11 and October 16, 17 and 18, 2020. Stagecoach will take place on October 23, 24 and 25, 2020. All purchases for the April dates will be honoured for the rescheduled October dates. Purchases will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend.

Thank you for your continues support and we look forward to seeing you in the desert this fall.
