Rapidly rising Gold Coast singer-songwriter DOOLIE (Doolie Shadforth) shows no signs of slowing down with the release of ‘Only For A Night’, an emotive neo-soul song with a 2-step backbone, brought to life by renowned Sydney producer Moonbase (Anderson Paak, Ecca Vandal, Eyez, Miss Blanks, DVNA).
‘Only For A Night’ is about making that pivotal first impression, and the limited time you have to do so. DOOLIE elaborates, “It’s kind of like when you meet someone on a night out and you’ve got the night to decide if you like them or not and vice versa.” A punchy millennial lyricist, DOOLIE comments further on the songwriting process with Moonbase, “The chorus was actually the first thing I wrote. Moonbase showed me the track and it just came out, like a full on word vom,” explains DOOLIE of the effortless collaboration, “Moonbase is such an amazing producer and also just a super fun and genuine guy.”
Reciprocating the positive vibes, Moonbase knew he had to work with DOOLIE in some capacity since first hearing her voice via triple j Unearthed. “She’s a creative powerhouse and super down-to-earth too, so ‘Only For A Night’ came together really effortlessly. The track hangs somewhere between the realms of energetic 2-step and soulful quietude – a perfect after-hours vibe,” as he accurately explains it.
It’s been a solid 12 months for DOOLIE who’s fronted a compelling catalogue of millennial love songs with dramatic edge. Her sharp yet playful lyrics have struck a chord with audiences both locally and internationally, delivering a fresh blend of mid-tempo pop/R&B with a tight collection of producers GXNXVS and Cam Nacson. Her impressive live performance has further established her presence, seeing her take the stage at festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival and Big Pineapple.
Don’t miss DOOLIE performing ‘Only For A Night’ at the mental health awareness festival Torch Fest at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on April 4, 2020.
