Sydney’s esteemed electronic music duo, Flight Facilities, is set to take their celebrated Decades concept on a tour across clubs and outdoor music venues throughout October 2023. The Decades Tour serves as an extension of their acclaimed mix series, which meticulously covers music from every decade spanning 1962 to the present day.
Commencing at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Friday, October 6th, the tour will unfold its musical journey to the idyllic Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on the subsequent night. Flight Facilities will then grace Melbourne Pavilion on Friday, October 20th, followed by a performance at Perth’s Rechabite Hall on Saturday, October 21st. The tour reaches its culmination at Liberty Hall Carpark in Sydney on Sunday, October 29th. Moreover, Flight Facilities is poised to captivate the audience at Adelaide’s Harvest Rock Festival, solidifying their presence in the festival circuit.
The visionary minds behind Flight Facilities, Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell, conceived the Decades mix series back in 2012 with the intention of curating a comprehensive sonic chronicle of their favorite music over the past four decades. Over the course of a decade, they have meticulously crafted six distinctive mixes, including the latest 1962-1972 mix in 2020 and the recent 2012-2022 mix released in July.
Commenting on their latest mix, Gruzman remarked, “It was a decade best summed up by podcasts, cancel culture, fake news, and memeing our way through tragedy and triumph.” This latest mix masterfully weaves together 78 songs, 60 news and culture snippets, and a total of 240 audio tracks in a seamless sonic tapestry.
The forthcoming Decades Tour will ingeniously incorporate music and cultural references from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. These captivating shows will be presented in-the-round, offering concert-goers an immersive experience as Gruzman and Lyell become part of the vibrant crowd.
