With three UK Top 10 hits, three Grammy nominations and a succession of hits such as ‘Superstylin’’, ‘Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)’, ‘I See You Baby’ and ‘At The River’, Groove Armada are one of the most influential forces in dance music.

Now the duo (Tom Findlay and Andy Cato) share their brand new single ‘Get Out On The Dancefloor’. The track previews their long-awaited new album which will follow later this year – their first studio set since 2010’s landmark ‘Black Light’.

‘Get Out On The Dancefloor’ features key ‘Black Light’ collaborator Nick Littlemore (Empire Of The Sun, Pnau). His stream-of-consciousness vocals merge with Groove Armada’s slick grooves to feel like a motorik twist on Talking Heads. The duo had accumulated hundreds of extracts of Littlemore’s vocals and painstakingly edited them together into something fresh and vibrant.

Cato recalls, “As I went through the recordings of Nick, I realized there were lots of cool phrases and great deliveries we could use. It took a very long time to find the right order for them, but once we had that line ‘Get out on the dancefloor’, it felt hooky and vibey. Slotting the music underneath was the easy bit!”

Although Groove Armada has been active in recent years with DJ sets, select shows, and the ‘Twenty One Years’ compilation, the prospect of a new album appeared to be unlikely. That all changed when the duo stepped out in front of 40,000 people at the Boomtown Festival and was overwhelmed by the reaction from long-term fans and newcomers alike.

Further encouraged by music fans’ diversifying interests and by the increasingly eclectic nature of dance music, Groove Armada planned to finish some material that remained from the ‘Black Light’ sessions. But as they spent time in the studio together, that idea evolved and mutated into something new. The result is a collection of new songs that proves that Groove Armada’s flair for merging electro elements with the infectious energy of a live band remains as strong as ever.

The recording process behind the new material was the antithesis to the grueling schedule that Groove Armada committed to when making ‘Black Light’. With Cato living in France, where he works on his sustainable and progressive farming business, the two members would often work alone or with other collaborators before reuniting in London (in Findlay’s home studio, or Miloco Studios) for a few days of intense sessions.

“When we’re in the studio, we go about it in a super intense way, but it’s a laugh,” says Cato. “It’s like all of the rest of the world shuts down and the two of us make our ideas become reality. It’s just fun, and it always has been. The fundamental thing is that we like spending time together and making music.”

Findlay adds, “It’s lovely to get to a place where we’ve made another record. That feels like a huge achievement and makes you reflect on everything we’ve done. It’s melancholic; there’s sadness but there’s joy too.”

    • Wongo Unleashes New Hit ‘The Preacher’ the-preacher-wongo-oz-edm

Wongo Helps Us See The Light With ‘The Preacher’ Featuring The Legendary Chuck Roberts. DJ, producer, former professional breakdancer and full-time funny man Wongo is ready to show us the light with his new single ‘The Preacher’. Featuring the legendary ‘voice of house music’ Chuck Roberts delivering a sermon-like vocal, ‘The Preacher’ encourages everyone to harness the power of love over adversity, delivered in a heater of a house track, with a sample from jazz artist Bob James. “Bob James is probably my favourite composer of all time by a long shot,” explains Wongo. “His ‘Shamboozie’ record had a huge effect on me from my b-boy days, so being able to sample one of his hits is a big deal for me! On top of that, having the lord Chuck Roberts on vocals… I’m done haha. Proper nostalgia vibes!” With a monthly radio show on Insomniac Radio in the US, numerous ARIA Club Chart #1s, sold-out tours, support from Mixmag, Billboard, Complex, Don Diablo, Claptone and Zeds Dead, amongst many more, Wongo is a force to be reckoned with. His most recent single ‘Apple’ hit #1 on the ARIA Club Chart, reached the top 20 of both the Shazam and Spotify Viral chart in Australia, and hit the most played spot on triple j, becoming the biggest club record in the country. Added to this, in 2020 Wongo launched his Need2Freak parties alongside Little Fritter, selling 3,000 tickets and calling on his mate FISHER to do a surprise B2B set. Need2Freek also hosted a stage at Grass Is Greener festival in Cairns in late 2021. In a scene dominated by DJs and producers, it is hard to believe that the most definitive moment in the birth of house music came not from beats, chords or vocals, but a sermon. The House Music Gospel or The Preacher’s Anthem are just a few of the descriptions anyone with even a passing interest in the genre will no doubt have heard in the impassioned intonation of “In The Beginning There was Jack, and Jack had a groove”, the opening line of Chuck Roberts’ soul stirring speech, a performance that was first heard in Rhythm Controll’s seminal 1987 track ‘My House’. Later resampled by Larry Heard, AKA Mr Fingers for ‘Can You Feel It’, often cited as the first deep house record ever released. As well as sampled on well over 120 various recordings. Roberts’ new sermon in ‘The Preacher’ once again delivers a soul-stirring message, letting people know that even in the face of adversity “what you need to know and understand and what you need to be able to stand on is this… there is a way out.” Wongo’s ‘The Preacher’ is primed for all b-boys and girls to get back on the dancefloor and know “the thing inside of us that can conquer any obstacle that’s placed in our way… this my friend is love.” Wongo’s latest hit, ‘The Preacher’ featuring Chuck Roberts is out now, get your first listen below!

    • Matroda Unleashes Two Certified House Gems On “Gotta Let You Go” matroda-2022-oz-edm-feature

Matroda makes his way back over to Insomniac Records with another standout appearance arriving in the shape of his new two-track release, ‘Gotta Let You Go.’ The Croatian house producer has proven to be one of the most well-rounded figures currently holding court in the house music space, with an impressive repertoire of tracks that have seen maneuvering through influences like a madman. His versatility has been littered courteously across the Insomniac catalog via a string of releases stretching back all the way to his label debut in 2020. So, it’s only fitting his newest offering would see him splitting between both ends of the spectrum like the chameleonic champion that he is. On the title cut “Gotta Let You Go,” he opts for a warm piano-driven groove about cutting ties with a love that seems to have lost its luster. A diva-friendly vocal wails without a shred of remorse, belting out the cold hard truth over bright piano stabs that scamper above a bed of pumping percussion. Its deceptively upbeat nature serves as a pleasant reminder that there’s always sunshine to be had at the end of a storm. “Touchin’ Me” leans into tougher tech house territory, another area of expertise for the artist in question. Pulsating basslines and shuffling drums ride atop the crest of a crescendo, until the chunky synth lead alternates its pitch through sporadic quick bursts above vocal chops and a mighty hook calling out the track’s namesake. A swelling ricochet leads us into the breakdown, eventually flaring up to make full contact through its thumping tactile sequence. On both tracks, Matroda shows us yet again that he has his hands in all the right places. Matroda’s latest two-track offering is emblematic of the fluidity he’s perfected over the last few years. He’s made a habit out of pushing his own limits on the Insomniac imprint, returning regularly to make a run at almost any influence that happens to pique his interest. From the brooding, nostalgia laced “When We We Young,” the pumping piano jam “Lifting,” all the way through to his moody heartbreak anthem “Forget It” (which is closing in on 10 million streams), nothing is off the table for him. Out now via Beatport and all streaming platforms, get your first listen below!

    • FISHER Unleashes Latest Hit ‘Palm Beach Banga’ fisher-palm-beach-banga-oz-edm-2022-feature

Grammy-nominated Australian DJ and producer FISHER celebrates his first release of 2022 with a deftly crafted volume-cranker, ‘Palm Beach Banga’. Appearing in FISHER’s DJ sets since 2019, the track has been continually worked on to the point of perfection and is finally ready for release on February 11th via etcetc in Australia and New Zealand. As various Australian state governments continue to restrict dancing, FISHER’s new song asks us the poignant question, ‘Can you dance to my beat?’ Featuring an absolute classic vocal akin to Green Velvet’s ‘La La Land’, US house music royalty Palmer Brown aka Kevin Hedge’s (Blaze, Stardust, De’Lacy) vocal tops the acidy tech house production from FISHER. Not short of social commentary, ‘Palm Beach Banga’ has been spotted in FISHER and fans’ social posts at shows in the US (Electric Zoo, Elrow, Marquee) and UK (Creamfields, The Drumsheds and Printworks) over the last 12 months.  An homage to the stomping ground of a grommet surfer FISHER, Palm Beach is a coastal suburb on Queensland’s Gold Coast, an area where Paul Fisher now lives with his wife Chloe Chapman and friends from high school who he’s still close to today. Known for his wild sense of humour and energetic performance persona, FISHER first burst onto the electronic scene with tracks ‘Stop It’ and ‘Ya Kidding’, since becoming one of the scene’s most in-demand artists. His 2018 Grammy and ARIA-nominated single ‘Losing It’, definitively iconic, was one of the most impactful songs of the year, reaching #2 on triple j’s Hottest 100 and having now been streamed on Spotify over 300 million times. The rest of FISHER’s 2022 boasts a full international travel itinerary and more new music, before he returns home to Australia for his massive FISHER Beach Party, hitting Perth, Brisbane, Wollongong and St Kilda. Arriving just in time for Australia to demand dancing and club life to return to all, ‘Palm Beach Banga’ has all of the elements fans look for when they launch themselves back onto the dancefloor.

    • Kult Kyss’ Release Euphoric New Single ‘So Alive’ kult-kyss-so-alive-oz-edm-feature

Melbourne electronic duo Kult Kyss are back with a captivating new track, ‘So Alive’, produced alongside acclaimed Australian producer LUCIANBLOMKAMP. Created in the depths of lockdown, vocalist Rromarin and producer Haxx have conjured pure magic with ‘So Alive’, creating a hypnotic track that yearns to uplift the spirits of everyone it comes across. ‘So Alive’ is lifted from Kult Kyss’ upcoming debut EP Ultra Sound, set for release in November and also featuring collaborations with the likes of BRUX and Motez.  Kult Kyss explains, “‘So Alive’ was born in the midst of the pandemic, at a time when things felt incredibly limited and uncertain. The experience of being in lockdown forced us to shift our perspectives from constantly looking towards the future to living fully in the present. ‘So Alive’ is inspired by this, and explores the magic and beauty that can be found in living in the moment, day by day. In creating the track we wanted to pay homage to early ‘90s dance music, incorporating dusty sampled breaks with euphoric synths and a simple, mantra-like vocal hook. We were also fortunate enough to work with our friend LUCIANBLOMKAMP (who has produced for Khalid & US-rapper 6LACK) on additional production, who brought his signature gritty 2-step sound to the track.” ‘So Alive’ is an extension of the Kult Kyss sound that we’ve come to know and love over the last few years. The pair’s recent releases ‘Kill That Beat’ and ‘God Is A Bassline’ saw high rotation on triple j Unearthed, earning support from Spotify with editorial placements in New Music Friday, New Dance Beats and Top Shelf Electronic. This past year, Kult Kyss also had the opportunity to invite fans into their universe while supporting Running Touch at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, performing live at Meadow Music Festival and joining Motez on triple j’s Mix Up. Kult Kyss know how to elicit feelings within their audience, and ‘So Alive’ is no different.

    • PNAU Team Up With Budjerah For Uplifting New Track ‘Stranger Love’ pnau-budjerah-oz-edm-feature

Having reunited with Ladyhawke for their recent single ‘River’, acclaimed dance music trio PNAU now team up with Australian singer-songwriter prodigy Budjerah for their new single ‘Stranger Love’. A powerful and uplifting house track based on the French novella The Little Prince, ‘Stranger Love’ brings together Budjerah’s soulful voice with the dancefloor sensibilities that PNAU have become renowned for over their stellar career. Recorded in Byron Bay in early 2021, ‘Stranger Love’ magically marries the best of both artists into an interstellar banger. PNAU’s Nick Littlemore describes the experience of working with breakthrough artist Budjerah: “Meeting a young, spirited artist like Budjerah is beautiful and challenging. To encounter someone so young who already has a great handle on creativity and kindness confronts one’s own insecurities. He comes across as a natural; not something one sees a lot of in this business. Whilst we come from vastly different experiences, the supernatural power of music brought us together. We wrote from the perspective of psychedelic adventuring, and wistfully met somewhere in the middle. What came together was a true PNAU happening – an interstellar banger to be enjoyed by the trippy dreamer in all of us.” Budjerah adds, “Joel Quartermain [from ARIA and APRA Award winning band Eskimo Joe] and I originally wrote Stranger Love as an acoustic ballad. The song was written based on the book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and describes the relationship between the young boy (the little Prince) and a rose that lands on his home planet. The boy cares for her, he gives her his love and attention, but the rose doesn’t really appreciate the boy, so he leaves the planet. It was really fun to make the track with PNAU. I recorded the vocals with Nick Littlemore when we met in Byron in February of 2021. The performance element of a dance record is quite different to what I’m used to, but it was really fun. It sounds really great.” PNAU is the multi-platinum-selling, ARIA award-winning electronic act of Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun, Vlossom, Teenager), Peter Mayes and Sam Littlemore, famed for their extensive career born out of the underground clubs and festival dancefloors of Australia. PNAU also hold the acclaimed title of giving Elton John his first UK No.1 album in 22 years when they collaborated with the legendary Rocketman on the 2012 album ‘Good Morning To The Night’. Rumour has it PNAU are currently working with Elton John once again… With a catalogue of their own hits and multiple albums behind them, PNAU have enjoyed a powerful renaissance over the past few years, with multi-platinum hits ‘Go Bang’ and ‘Chameleon’ becoming inescapable on the airwaves in their home country of Australia and climbing the Billboard Dance charts in the U.S. 2019 singles ‘Solid Gold’ and ‘All Of Us’, embedded PNAU as the most cutting edge electronic act to watch on a global scale, finding a loyal fan base amongst the most influential decision makers at BBC Radio 1, triple j and streaming services across the globe. In late 2020 PNAU reunited with New Zealand’s Ladyhawke for ‘River’, which harked back to their classic track and fan-favourite, ‘Embrace’. Last year Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes also launched their own label, Lab78, delivering a brand new project in the form of breakthrough indie act Vlossom (who also collaborated with PNAU on their single ‘Lucky’), with subsequent signings Ivy Rose out of Houston and the Tasmanian duo Sumner, who recently hit the top 5 of the Spotify Viral chart in Australia. For Budjerah Slabb, making music was an inevitability. Raised in a home full of instruments and playing in family bands, the 19-year-old savant has crafted a sound that melds the formative elements of gospel and soul, with contemporary pop and R’n’B references. Budjerah found kinship with ARIA and J Award-winning artist Matt Corby, who produced his 2021 debut self-titled EP. Corby’s studio is located close to Budjerah’s home in Fingal Head – traditionally the land of Bundjalung people, from which Budjerah is descended – and the two clocked countless hours comparing notes and crafting the sound that would introduce the world to what Budjerah can do. Armed with his runaway hit single ‘Higher,’ Budjerah recently took the stage for a breathtaking performance at Music From The Home front, alongside special guest appearances for Jack River, Lime Cordiale and Thelma Plum.  He will also support The Avalanches in Sydney this weekend and is touring nationally now. PNAU now take Budjerah’s incredible voice to new heights, with ‘Stranger Love’ delivering a powerful and passionate message, whilst also calling fans to the dancefloor in signature PNAU fashion.
