Balance Music has always been on the pulse of cutting-edge music, from their original series with James Holder and Phil K, to the incredibly unique talents of Henry Saiz, James Zabiela and Max Cooper.

Two years since his last release on the revered Australian label, progressive mastermind Hernán Cattáneo makes his return to Balance Music, with ‘Balance presents Sunsetstrip,’ the exciting next plateau of concept mixes to come from the label. Out this summer on August 2, 2019, the release will be available in a limited edition 2xCD bundle, and on digital, and streaming platforms worldwide with a very special, limited edition 2LP vinyl package to be available later this year in October for collectors.

Featuring over 30 tracks with almost all selections exclusive to the release, listeners can look forward to hearing tracks from Brian Cid, DAVI, Hernán Cattáneo, and Soundexile, Khen, Navar, and many more.

There are certain DJs that need little introduction, and top of that list is Hernán Cattáneo. Lovingly referred to as ‘El Maestro’ by his legions of adoring fans, Hernan has carved a career over the last thirty years that eclipses all others. Fascinated by the synth-pop and post-punk of the 80s, Hernán quickly discovered the futuristic sounds of dance music coming from Detroit and Chicago. Completely consumed by his new-found love, he progressed naturally to DJing. It was through his life-changing residency at the epicentre of Argentinian club culture, Clubland in Buenos Aires, that lead to him meeting Paul Oakenfold who catapulted him into the global sphere.

Over the years, his forays into the CD compilation market have enthralled, excited, and energized fans. From those tentative first steps with Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto, through to the golden years of progressive house with the revered UK label Renaissance, and then onto his groundbreaking Balance mixes, Hernán has always brought more than just a selection of upfront tracks and silky mixing skills. In his own words, ‘Sunsetstrip’ represents a continuation of his legacy, by marrying his all-encompassing love of the music with his strong work ethic.

“Sunsetstrip is a tribute to the energy, light and vibration going on at sunsets. It’s an album based on the shows I’ve been doing for years in places like Woodstock 69 in the Netherlands, the Big Playa at Burning Man, boat parties around the world, and recently at Punta del Este in Uruguay, along with the polo fields in Buenos Aires, Argentina. These kinds of shows are a big part of my schedule every year, and doing this album with Balance is a great opportunity to showcase what they’re all about.” – Hernán Cattáneo

Manoeuvring through multiple genres and tempos, Cattáneo carefully places the listener in a deep state of reflection as Disc 1 begins with Darpan’s “Blessing,” a true testament to Hernán’s ability to convey meaning so effortlessly. Weaving through silky melodies from Juan Hansen, Mariano Mellino and Interaxxis, and Orsen, the Argentinian DJ paints the perfect sonic tapestry.

Locked into full-on cruise control, Hernán Cattáneo sets the scene on Disc 2 with an opening double from Mike Griego as rubbery bass, and lightly tribal percussions turn into a soundscape wonderland. Easily shifting gears, Cattáneo tees up the golden hour with tracks from Brian Cid, EANP, Nick Varon, Sentre, before setting off into the sunset with one his collaborations with Soundexile.

Home to a plethora of concept mix albums and originals from dance music heavyweights like Henry Saiz, James Zabiela, Max Cooper, and Patrice Bäumel, Balance Music boastfully presents another world-class talent with Hernán Cattáneo and ‘Balance presents Sunsetstrip.’ Representing a continuation of his legacy on the label and in compilation mix albums, Hernán Cattáneo’s writes a new chapter as a story writer of dance music. Treat your ears to the official preview mix below!

    • Spencer Brown Announces New Album ‘Equanimity’ + World Tour Dates spencer-brown-2023-oz-edm-feature

Progressive mastermind Spencer Brown to return with new studio album ‘Equanimity.’ Spencer Brown is a leader in the new progressive house and techno generation. Whether it be his releases on world-class imprints such as Anjunadeep, Bedrock, Last Night on Earth, Factory93, and his burgeoning diviine imprint, through to his legendary DJ sets, Spencer Brown is an artist who’s going the extra mile to deliver an uncompromised sound and experience to his fans. The next step on Spencer’s meteoric journey is ‘Equanimity,’ Spencer Brown’s third artist album, set for release on September 29 via diviine. Following his previous albums, 2018’s ‘Illusion of Perfection’ and 2020’s ‘Stream of Consciousness,’ ‘Equanimity’ is mixed into one continuous piece and features heavyweight collaborations to be revealed soon. ‘Equanimity’ was built on the back of a difficult period for Spencer, which included the global pandemic (which canceled the majority of his 2nd album tour and income), his first breakup, the death of his grandmother, publicly coming out as gay, and grappling with his out-of-control OCD (which is a mental disease fueled by uncertainty.) “When I wasn’t thinking about these things, life looked even worse through my phone,” he says “Every day I saw a rapid-fire stream of contradictions: sugar-coated highlight reels balanced by extremism and negativity from the news, designed to game our emotions for attention. After enough nights driven by pain and uncertainty, I realized that all I can control is how I let external stimuli affect my being. At first, I tried to eliminate the things causing my day to get worse; then I realized I had to be OK with them. I had to accept difficulties and let them pass through me. During this period, a friend introduced me to the concept of equanimity, describing it as “calmness and composure, especially in a difficult situation.” This was the exact skill I had unknowingly been trying to find. But like a muscle, it takes time to engrain deep strength in the core. In reality, peace exists around us if we can stay unaffected by the noise. Written between 2019 and 2023, ‘Equanimity’ describes how I learned to be OK when external stimuli are out of my control. All we can do is work on how we react to the world around us.” He continues, “‘Equanimity’ represents the biggest period of internal growth for my psyche and maturity. Like my last albums, I mixed this album into one continuous piece. The holistic form challenged me to add an extra layer of depth and creativity to my process, ensuring that everything flows into a cohesive body. In a world driven by short-form viral content, I’ve focused my last 4 years slightly shying away from the spotlight, making sure this body of work represents my authenticity. This album takes a slow-shutter snapshot of ongoing time: from pre-pandemic, to pandemic, to post-pandemic, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.” Spencer Brown will support the release of ‘Equanimity’ with his most ambitious world tour to date. Kicking off in August, Spencer will hit the road for a jaunt through Asia before returning to the States for an extensive run of North American dates through early 2024. It’s important to note that a Spencer Brown DJ set is an entirely spontaneous and authentic music experience – no two sets will ever be the same. This is the result of Spencer living and breathing music to the point where he knows every facet of every track in his arsenal inside and out and knows how to program his sets following his audience. The tension, the ebb, and the flow to the point of dance floor explosion is a true art pained by Spencer. Select dates on the tour will feature a unique “Divine Inspirations” live show that will present the ultimate Spencer Brown experience. “It’s always been a dream to build a live production show from the ground up. I’ve worked with an army of brilliant artists to design the stage, the lights, the visuals, and the atmosphere to create a flow aligned with my music,” Brown says. “The show will truly be “live,” in that, I do not have a setlist (as usual), and the visual artists won’t either. We’ll feed off each other to create audiovisual moments unique to each night. After debuting the prototype of this show in San Francisco last year, we can’t wait to tour the revamped version in Austin, Los Angeles, and Denver to celebrate my new album, ‘Equanimity.’” We’ll close with one final thought from Spencer about the project… “In extremely difficult periods, we may not find the silver linings until time has passed. Only then can we zoom out and reflect on what the universe was trying to convey. For me, this album represents the beautiful state of tranquility I discovered after weathering the storm when the music was written. Tying it together as one piece closed this chapter of finding strength from inside, my path to Equanimity.” ‘Equanimity’ is available September 29 on diviine. Be on the lookout for the full tracklist reveal, coming soon. • Above & Beyond’s Paavo Siljamäki releases debut solo album as P.O.S, ‘Deeper Tales’ Paavo-Siljamaki-oz-edm

The culmination of a personal journey, ‘Deeper Tales’ sees Paavo reconnect with club culture, and rediscover himself, for his debut solo album as P.O.S. A celebrated musician and DJ, Paavo Siljamäki is one-third of the legendary British dance institution Above & Beyond, founders of the London-based label Anjunabeats. Double GRAMMY-nominated, RIAA Gold Certified artists, the trio have taken iconic festival stages and legendary live venues by storm, from Glastonbury, EDC, and Creamfields, to the Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden. But over the past five years, Paavo grappled with a number of personal and health-related difficulties, including several battles with Covid. “Basically, I had a burnout. I just couldn’t see what I wanted to do. And after my burnout, I was like: what is dance music to me? I don’t really know even if I like it. I’ve heard – I’ve written – too many build-ups! So I thought: that’s me done,” Paavo says. Nature gave Paavo a sense of renewed purpose. It first inspired his work on Above & Beyond’s ambient album ‘Flow State’, and later drew him back onto the dance floor. “There’s no feeling of freedom like being at sea,” he adds. “When I’m sailing, I synchronize with the sunrise and sunset – we almost always get up at sunrise. So this is like being really aligned with nature. I found that, after my burnout, and Covid, I really found myself in nature. There’s something about being closer with nature that is really healing – and very inspiring.” After spending years behind the decks on stage, Paavo reflected on his experiences as a teenage rave kid, and felt compelled to dance in the heart of the crowd at the desert raves of Burning Man and clubs in Ibiza. His ‘Deeper Tales’ album embodies these recent experiences; uplifting, emotive club records with many debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 500 and Anjunadeep Open Air L.A. celebrations last autumn. Paavo Siljamäki has already amassed over 1.5M streams on his ‘Deeper Tales’ album singles to date, with ‘Polar Bears’ peaking at #6 in the Beatport Progressive House Chart. Born in a studio jam in Los Angeles in late 2021, ‘Polar Bears’ is a collaboration with DJ, producer, and Paavo’s close friend, Spencer Brown. Paavo and Spencer’s friendship stretches back to 2014, when the budding producer caught the ear of Above & Beyond with his debut release ‘Chalice’ on Avicii’s imprint LE7ELS. The lead single from ‘Deeper Tales’ pairs P.O.S with anamē for an adaptation of ‘Lonely River’ by Kyan. UK-based Kyan Kuatois’ chart-topping discography includes collaborations with Duke Dumont on ‘Need You (100%)’ and Madeon on his 2015 hit track ‘You’re On’. Paavo recently completed his ‘Deeper Tales’ tour across North America to celebrate his latest releases as P.O.S. Shows in Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more gave fans a unique insight into Paavo’s creative identity outside of Above & Beyond. • HI-LO and Chocolate Puma Join Forces on ‘WTFU’ hilo-chocolate-puma-oz-edm

HI-LO has a real treat for his fans – a new collaboration with two of Holland’s most celebrated producers, the legendary duo Chocolate Puma. The latest single, ‘WTFU,’ is available November 22 on HILOMATIK. Quite simply, ‘WTFU’ does what the title suggests: it Wakes you The F*ck Up! There is no break from the peak time madness here – from the opening sample that first commands your attention to the droning race car techno throughout, this is the soundtrack to the darkest and sweatiest club experiences. ‘WTFU’ is the third collaboration between the artists, following the previously released singles “Steam Train” and “LasersX999.” In just a few short years, Oliver Heldens successfully parlayed his career in mainstream dance music into a much-lauded alter-ego in the techno world as HI-LO, gaining widespread acceptance from the underground scene in the process. Making the most of an era when genre boundaries are less important or distinct than ever and younger generations cast aside the snobbery of old, the name HI-LO is now synonymous with cutting-edge, quality, hard-hitting, innovative techno. Chocolate Puma is a Dutch DJ/Producer duo consisting of René ter Horst and Gaston Steenkist, aka Dj Zki & Dobre. They are two of Holland’s most celebrated producers who have released hundreds of records and countless remixes under their various guises, making them a duo whose influence on the European dance music scene cannot be underestimated.

    • Luude Launches ‘No Instruction’ Label + New Single ‘Fun In The Sun’ Luude Launches 'No Instruction' Label + New Single 'Fun In The Sun' - OZ EDM

Australian breakout drum and bass producer Luude today announces the launch of his new imprint No Instruction in partnership with his long standing management company Cloak, distributed by Virgin Music. The new imprint is about creating legitimate moments for artists using the live platform and global network of the team. Luude shares “we want to throw good parties, put out records we like from people we like and we want to have a good crack at doing all those things as best and big as possible.”  To mark the debut, No Instruction presents its first release, ‘Fun In The Sun,’ by Luude & Perth based producer Harry Bee. The left field club heater has quickly become one of Luude’s most requested songs of the year, with videos of the record posted across ID pages amassing over 3 million views and generating widespread anticipation. The track perfectly encapsulates the essence of No Instruction, it’s a bit weird and made for the dancefloor. Sharing his excitement about the release and the launch of the label, Luude shares “I’m really happy to be launching this imprint with a collab featuring one of my best mates from Australia – having an outlet to do things like this is sick. We’ve got some mental records coming from some of my favourite producers,  some parties around the world, we’re doing vinyl and just going back to doing things for the club, which is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.” Cloak, the management team behind No Instruction, emphasises the label’s mission to embrace creativity and innovation, “people told us this was a stupid idea, launching a new imprint by releasing a collab with one of Luude’s mates from back home – with some pretty high-profile collaborations that could have been first. But being able to do things like this is what this label is about. The fact that it’s been one of the most requested tunes of the year for Luude is testament to the fact that buzzing records can come from anywhere.” In addition to its innovative approach to music, No Instruction will launch with a series of underground parties across the UK, Europe and Australia throughout 2024. The inaugural event, a secret pop up party at a very coveted London location, will kick off on July 31st, featuring performances by Luude, Bushbaby, Efan, Willo and Denham Audio. Australian producer Luude has firmly established himself on the global stage with back-to-back hits like ‘Down Under’ and ‘Big City Life,’ which have sold millions of copies and earned multi-platinum certifications worldwide. His achievements include an ARIA award for Best Dance Release, a nomination for the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award, “Best International Artist” at the 2022 Drum and Bass Awards, 3x BBC Radio 1 Hottest Records, and multiple platinum, gold, and silver certifications. Luude’s relentless touring and dynamic performances, including his recent sold out run with Chase & Status across Australia and New Zealand, have cemented his status as one of Australia’s most in-demand artists. Luude & Harry Bee’s new single ‘Fun In The Sun’ is out now on No Instruction. Follow No Instruction across socials for info on all upcoming shows and releases.
