Two of Melbourne’s busiest promoters, Loud Entertainment and Cloud Nine, will be joining forces to bring something unique to Melbourne this coming New Year’s day. For the last 3 years these two promoters have been responsible for hosting the Sounds Like Summer NYD event featuring Australia’s most popular DJs, and this time they are set to take the event to the next level.
For the first time ever, the Melbourne CBD will play host to a New Year’s Day celebration like no other: On 1st January 2016, a section of Bourke Street between King and Spencer Street will blocked off for a huge street party, a project which has been years in the making. The whole street in front of the iconic Royal Melbourne Hotel will be turned into a large celebratory playground and will also include access to the Royal Melbourne Hotel and the parking area of the parish right next to it. The whole RMH venue will be transformed into 4 different sections which will be filled with music to explore, while outside the venue you can expect bars serving drinks and snacks, chill out zones, and of course, a main stage which will feature none else than Melbourne’ favorite electronic artist, Will Sparks.
Will Sparks really needs no introduction. With residencies in Las Vegas, official remix commissions for some of the biggest pop tracks (check his remix of Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’), over 500K Facebook fans, a gig at Jay-Z’s ‘Made In America’ festival plus many more other achievements, Will Sparks can currently be considered as Australia’s biggest electronic music export.
With the recent news that Will Sparks will be getting his own television series for MTV2 called ‘Let’s Bounce’ (starting August 22nd on MTV2), the fanfare and interest around the Melbourne icon is at an all time high.
With many more acts to be announced, expect this Sounds Like Summer Street Party to be one of the most talked about events to hit the Melbourne CBD – and if past Sounds Like Summer events are an indicator of what will happen, then expect this to be a sell out well in advance.
Stay tuned – more info very soon!
