Sydney’s campaign to raise funds and awareness for mental health in the music community is back!
Psychiatrist Dr Kamran Ahmed (AKA Doc Kamran) became aware of the high rates of mental illness in the music industry when he launched electronic music platform: ‘Rave Reviewz.’ Kamran started the ‘Music on my Mind’ initiative to try and address the problem. Over the past two years, ‘Rave Reviewz’ have raised $37,500 for mental health charities through their ‘Music on My Mind’ fundraising club nights and have reached thousands of people with their online content to raise awareness.
In 2020, mental health is a bigger issue than ever before. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a massive impact, especially on the music industry with venues shut down, events and tours cancelled and thousands of jobs lost. ‘Support Act’ – the mental health charity for music industry professionals, saw a 52% increase in demand for counselling through their Wellbeing Helpline from April to June (the period covering the Lockdown in NSW). This figure looks set to increase further sadly, as the pandemic continues to take effect.
For this year’s ‘Music on my Mind’, with the ongoing support of City of Sydney, ‘Rave Reviewz’ are teaming up with some of Sydney’s best House & Techno music crews, to bring you a quality livestream fundraising event for mental health in music. 50% of donations will go to ‘Support Act’ and the rest will help with the costs of ‘Music on My Mind’ now and in the future. You can expect lots more music related content to raise awareness of mental health issues throughout October too!
