After first meeting in 2015, electronic music pioneer Tiësto and model Annika Backes have officially tied the knot.
As reported by Vogue, the newlyweds got hitched in the middle of the Utah Desert with a ceremony to remember.
The wedding took place at the futuristic Aman resort ‘Amangiri’, in the middle of the Utah desert, with the ceremoney on the Amangiri’s patio with the desert landscape in the background.
A perfect venue for both, Tiësto explains the desert is the place where, he can relax from “crazy DJ life.” “To be in a landscape that has hardly been touched by people is really special,” he adds. ”You can see all the stars at night, and the sunsets and sunrises are so special and unique. It’s pretty much the most romantic place on earth.”
The scenenic setting saw the venue keep “materials contemporary and rectilinear, while the florals were wild and organic” Annika explains. The bridal party walked on an elevated concrete aisle, beneath a series of mirrored arches that reflected the concrete structure on one side and the desert on the other.
The main pool at the resort was covered for the reception, but small pools on each side were decorated with endless floating candles. “We wanted to surround ourselves with fire energy, so we used literally thousands of candles to surround the space, cover the rock formations, and top the table,” Annika explains. Guests were seated at two long black lacquer tables swathed in anthracite chiffon, and the flowers were done in deep shades of burgundies and purples with driftwood accents.
The reception following dinner was set up to feel like a nightclub, with mirrored arches and large entryways. DJ Coleman then amped things up by surprising the bride and playing an original song that Tiësto had written and produced. “One of my favorite parts of the evening was hearing the song Tijs made for me,” Annika says. “It’s called ‘A Million Years,’ and I was completely surprised—it was so much fun to dance together for the first time [to this song], and everyone loved it!”
