Three favourites of the Australian music scene, Tommy Trash, Go Freek and Lucy Lucy unite to bring you the euphoric dance weapon ‘Darkness Into Light’, out now via Club Sweat. Born out of the kind of ecstatic passion you only experience in the heavy fog and flickering strobes of a packed dance floor, this triple threat treats us to a fiery heater set to be a mainstay in pumping clubs and festivals alike. A powerful bass line groove and ascending synth stabs build intoxicating tension, before the husky and nuanced vocals of Lucy Lucy command the room, increasinging in intensity and leading to the ultimate release. The drop hits, bodies roll, and this electric trio remind you of what it’s like to fall in love on the dance floor.
Who better to tell the story of this epic collaboration than Lucy Lucy herself, “‘Darkness Into Light’ was the by-product of the first debaucherous night after lockdown restrictions eased. Friends reuniting over a sticky dancefloor, finally back on our bullshit after too many months apart. Early in the evening Tommy, Caleb and I had arranged to do a session the next day – a few hours passed and we were definitely still out past our curfew. Caleb and I decide it’s a good time to have a club pash because maybe we were both really excited? We almost out of awkwardness didn’t do the session but we did and we now have this delicious song baby to show for it. Sealed with a kiss. Literally.”
Go Freek confirms, “Writing ‘Darkness Into Light’ was about capturing the euphoria and ecstasy you would feel dancing the night away at a club pashing someone who you are falling in love with but only just met (which kinda went on the night before).”
One of Australia’s most in-demand dance music exports over the past decade, GRAMMY nominated artist Tommy Trash returned to the scene in 2020 after a 2 year hiatus. Since then it has been full steam ahead for one of Australia’s most exciting electronic acts, with releases such as ‘Lil Bit’ with Peking Duk, the inaugural release on hau5trap with ‘hiiigh’, and ‘Emergency’ with Yolanda Be Cool. More recently, he released ‘Satisfy’ the debut record on his very own label Milky Wave, and ‘Jaguwawa’ on Sweat It Out receiving praise from the likes of Billboard, EDM.com, Dancing Astronaut and more. While recent years have seen the resurgence of Tommy Trash he has long been recognised as one of the top DJs of the era, breaking out with 2013 release ‘Reload’, which earned silver certification in the UK, going 2 x Platinum in Sweden, while his remix of deadmau5 ‘The Veldt’ earned him a coveted GRAMMY nomination. Time and time again Tommy Trash has proven his production and DJ talents are not bound to any genre or era, as he has electrified across festivals such as Tomorrowland, EDC, Ultra Music Festival, and more recently on his own headline ‘Jaguwawa’ across North America.
Go Freek has become a leading force in the club scene locally and internationally, since breaking out with his ARIA Gold certified single ‘Define’, a collaboration with ARIA awarded dance producer Dom Dolla which has gone on to score over 50 million streams across platforms. Since then, Go Freek has gone on to release cross-over records such as, ‘Love Is The Weapon’, and ‘One Question’, while he recently released ‘Deep Cut’ on deadmau5’s own label Hau5trap as well as further releases on Solotoko, and Club Sweat with ‘Days Go By’, and ‘Be My Luv’. This year saw Go Freek collaborate with Mickey Kojak and Thandi Phoenix on emotive banger ‘Lose You’ via Sweat It Out. The Sydney artist’s extensive list of tech groovers have caught the attention of the likes triple j, SiriusXM, EDC Radio, Happy Mag, Acid Stag, and Purple Sneakers and endorsements from tastemakers such as Idris Elba, FISHER, Camelphat, Claptone, Anna Lunoe, Christian Martin, Porter Robinson and Diplo. No stranger to the dance scene, Go Freek has multiple AU/NZ tours under his belt as well as performances at EDC Las Vegas, Paradisco, Beyond Wonderland and Rabbits Eat Lettuce, to name a few.
This past year alone has seen Lucy Lucy collaborate on and off the stage with some of the most prominent artists in Australia & beyond. Including the likes of SLUMBERJACK, Example, Chilln It, and What So Not, she’s proving she’s got the chops to party with the best of them, garnering millions of streams and an adoring fan base. After working exclusively within her electronic duo Yuma X since their debut in 2015, frontwoman and vocalist Lucy Washington recently embarked on her solo project Lucy Lucy. Recent singles ‘$25’, ‘Sugarcoated’ and ‘Apple Tree’ have garnered great support from triple j and triple j Unearthed with Declan Byrne noting her affinity for “mixing slinky, bouncy pop with lush, warm sounds…” and that “it’s always a treat when it comes to Lucy Lucy.”
