After August’s ‘Melody’ with Sarah de Warren, Giuseppe Ottaviani delivers ‘Horizon’s [Part 2]’ another single-worded spellbinder with ‘Closer’.
One of the hallmarks of the Italian’s current album project has been pinpointing and spotlighting vocal talent from outside the trance & progressive lanes. ‘Closer’ however is its notable exception. It reteams Giuseppe with a singer-songwriter whose talents have made him one of the A-list’s most sought after. As such, it’s not the first time Giuseppe and Christian Burns’ paths have crossed (‘Brightheart’ from the ‘Alma’ album laying claim to that).
In contrast to ‘Brightheart’, but in keeping with the textural sonics of ‘Horizons’ deeper dive, ‘Closer’ brings a collaboration more meditatively and transcendentally tipped in nature.
Production-wise, Giuseppe prioritises atmosphere and vision over amp and elevation. His synths maintain a Moog-ish air throughout and Giuseppe weaves any number of other studio intricacies in, supplying it the richest of soundscapes.
Working on the principle of less being more, Christian bakes ether and emotion into every syllable of his song. Wistful, while never despondent, yet not traditionally uplifting either, his words rest unitedly on the cusp of hopeful. Tracked every step by Giuseppe’s empathetic production, honest-to-goodness musical alchemy takes place.
‘Horizons [Part 2]’ moves another step closer, as Giuseppe Ottaviani & Christian Burns’ stunning ‘Closer’ collaboration touches down on all good streaming and sales platforms today.
