One of Anjunadeep’s finest duo’s Jody Wisternoff & Nick Warren better known as Way Out West have extended their Electric Gardens performance to play a total of four dates on their upcoming Australian tour.

As reported back in October, Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren will perform together at the highly anticipated Electric Gardens Festival for a day time set. Kicking off the new year, we see the duo has locked in three more Australian performances at Geisha Perth, Victoria’s Rainbow Serpent Festival and Brisbane’s Capulet – which will see Way Out West play the same day as Sydney, however will be an intimate night time show.

Way Out West

Conspicuous from the rest of Bristol’s electronica scene in the ’90s by the absence of trip-hop or jungle leanings in their productions, Way Out West instead pursued straight-ahead house and trance with closer ties to progressive British dancefloors than American hip-hop. The duo of Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren first came together in the mid-’90s. Wisternoff was a veteran producer who had first recorded at the age of 14 (with fellow Bristolian house artists Smith & Mighty), while Warren was a high-profile Balearic DJ and club-night promoter influenced by the sounds of Madchester.

The duo began recording together, and by 1996 their single “The Gift” had become a big mover on dancefloors and the radio as well, thanks to a British advert that used the song. Signed to Deconstruction, Way Out West released their self-titled debut album in 1997. A change of venue, to Distinct’ive, preceded the release of 2001’s Intensify, and after a three-year interim the duo followed that with the like-minded Don’t Look Now. With Warren meanwhile releasing numerous mix compilations, many of them for Global Underground, Way Out West returned in 2009 with We Love Machine. Featuring contributors such as Scuba, Jaytech, and D. Ramirez, We Love Machine: The Remixes followed on Hope Recordings a year later. Wisternoff released the solo album Trails We Blaze on Anjunadeep in 2012 and went on to mix several installments of the label’s popular compilation series.

Anjunadeep also issued the Way Out West singles “Tuesday Maybe” and “Set My Mind” in 2016. With guest appearances by Doe Paoro and Liu Bei, the duo’s fifth LP, Tuesday Maybe, arrived in June 2017 and was accompanied by a performance at the Glastonbury Festival. Since then, the band have embarked on a UK tour, released their Tuesday Maybe (Remixed) album, and prepared a legion of new music to release throughout 2018 – and, with more new projects in the pipeline for the next year, it’s safe to say that there’s never been a more exciting time to be a Way Out West fan.

The track marks the lead single off Andrew Bayer’s debut Ophelia EP and corresponding winter tour. His 2011 debut ‘It’s Artificial’ merged glitch-hop, electronica and prog house, while on 2013’s ‘If It Were You, We’d Never Leave’ he pushed the envelope further with a critically-acclaimed journey of electronica and sunny, instrumental hip-hop. 2018’s ‘In My Last Life’ wove the emotive songwriting of Ane Brun and Alison May into a modern alt-pop masterpiece. His fourth studio album, ‘Duality’, is one of his most ambitious works to date; climbing to #1 on the US / Canada iTunes Dance chart and attracting support from Sirius XM’s Diplo and Liquid Todd, BBC Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale and KCRW’s Jason Bentley. With an alluring whispering vocal from RayRay and Dyro’s signature electro sounds, “To The Beat” proves to be the perfect dance floor heater and a brilliant meeting of the minds between the two artists. “I’ve created ‘To The Beat’ with the dancefloor in mind. I can’t wait to play this out more and see the crowd respond. Having Steve and Dim Mak’s confidence in pushing this as the first of a new collaboration between myself and Dim Mak makes for an exciting start to 2024!” – Dyro RayRay adds, “It was fun to work with Dyro. He reached out to me with the floor-hitting production a few months ago, and we puzzled the ideas together and came up with the banger! Much appreciated for the support from Steve and the label!” Dyro’s journey to the upper ranks of the global electronic music scene has been fast and swift, marking him out amongst his peers as one of the most talented DJ/producers to emerge from what was an explosive new generation of artists.
