What do you get when you combine three powerhouse artists like Otosan, P-Money and Kings? You get the party ready, house heater out today, ‘Our Worlds’.
Combing their individual worlds of house music, hip hop and pop, ‘Our Worlds’ has an infectious, driving house beat, weaving in modern vocal hooks that cross over from dancefloors to radio. The collaboration was one that the Australian/New Zealand duo Otosan had been dreaming about creating, working with some of New Zealand’s most respected artists who they have admired and been inspired by.
Otosan (Ryan Dickinson & Ultan Burke) explain how the dream collab came together, “We had a day booked in with P-Money at his studio and he played us this really cool sampley vocal and string idea he has been working on. It was originally much slower, so we bumped it up to a house tempo and put the dirty baseline behind it which worked really well; most of the instrumental as you hear it today came together that same day. The following day we were doing a different session at Parachute Studios and bumped into Kings in the kitchen. We had been chatting about working together for a while but never met in person and the chance encounter seemed like the perfect opportunity. We played him the instrumental from the day before which he loved, and we got the majority of the vocal written and recorded in a couple of hours before he had to race off. We were hoping to put together a track where you could hear the influences of everyone involved and reckon we’ve done just that. It’s been an honour to work with some of New Zealand’s finest music talent on this track!”
P-Money was also a fan of Otosan and had been trying to find the right time to work together, explaining, “When the guys linked with Kings and he added his vocals to the track it all started to feel really great. I was also excited as this would be the first time that Kings and I have worked together too. I dig this collaboration because you can hear each of our distinctive styles coming together. It’s like Our Worlds have aligned!”
Based on opposite sides of the Tasman, Otosan have been busy writing and releasing new music. Their 2021 Shadow Child collab ‘Right Here’ continued Otosan’s rise internationally, picking up support from UK radio including Capital Dance, Kiss FM and BBC Radio 1. Their 2020 single ‘Nowhere’ featuring Julia Lostrom is about to crack 2 million streams on Spotify, and they’ve picked up support locally from triple j, Unearthed and George FM.
A legend in the New Zealand music scene, P-Money is an award-winning turntablist, producer and artist who has worked with the likes of Akon and Scribe, producing Scribe’s multi-platinum breakthrough album The Crusader and hit ‘Not Many’. More recently, P-Money co-wrote and produced Starley’s global hit ‘Call On Me’.
Fellow New Zealand royalty Kings is one of the country’s most recognisable faces in the arts space, acting as a producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and videographer. Kings secured the longest running #1 on the New Zealand singles chart for his 2016 hit ‘Don’t Worry Bout it’, overtaking Lorde in the process, ensuring a multi-platinum record in NZ.
